Goytre AFC does not shout from the city centre. It plays in Penperlleni, a hamlet in Monmouthshire. That is a long time to keep a side going. The team wears red and black.

For decades, the club moved around, but in 1988 it found a home. They bought the Plough Road site after securing bank loans and grants from the Football Trust and Monmouth County Council. The ground opened for the 1991-92 season, and that stability changed everything. With a capacity of 1,000, it is not a cathedral.

The club won the Gwent County League Division Two in 2002 and later claimed the Welsh League Cup in 2011 by beating Aberbargoed Buds 1-0 in the final. They took the Welsh League Division Two title again in 2013. They started as founder members of the Ardal South East league in 2021, but they began that chapter with a 15-point deduction. They also know relegation, having dropped down after the 2018-19 season with only six wins.
