Greifswalder FC

In 2024 Greifswalder FC beat TSG Neustrelitz 5–0 in the final of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state cup. The win put the club into the DFB-Pokal, the national cup. Two years earlier they had reached the same final and lost it.

That run began on 1 July 2015, when Greifswalder SV 04 and FC Pommern Greifswald merged. The two had been the town's local rivals, and the merger left one club where there had been two. The new side started in the sixth-tier Verbandsliga Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It won that league in 2018 and went up to the fifth-tier NOFV-Oberliga Nord. Four years later it won that league too and reached the Regionalliga Nordost, the fourth tier.

The 2023–24 season, the club's second in the Regionalliga, ended with a second-place finish. The Volksstadion has a total capacity of 8,000, but the club is licensed to admit 4,990 spectators.

The Boddenkicker, also called the Rothosen, play in red and white. Their main rival is FC Hansa Rostock, and the meeting is billed as the Landesderby, the state derby. Toni Kroos began his youth career at Greifswalder SV 04, one of the two predecessor clubs. Robert Leipertz, Lion Semić and Ogechika Heil are among the club's recent signings.

The task now is to establish the club in the Regionalliga, where it has finished second once.
