Guizhou Zhucheng

The Guiyang Olympic Sports Center holds a little under 53,000, which makes it one of the largest grounds used by any third-tier side in China. It was not built for a football club — Guiyang had no professional team to put in it when the ring of stands went up above the western edge of the city. Guizhou Zhucheng Athletic arrived to fill it.

The club was assembled on 12 May 2023 out of the youth academy of Guizhou Qianzhixing, under an agreement between the municipal sports development company and the academy's parent club. That origin matters more than most founding dates: the province had been without a professional side, and the new club inherited a playing pool rather than starting from nothing.

The name comes from Zhucheng, the old name for Guiyang, meaning fortress city. In the paperwork the club also appears as Guizhou Guiyang Athletic.

Its first competitive season was 2024, in the Chinese Champions League — the fourth tier, and the only entry point available to a club with no history. Zhucheng won Group B in the final stage. On 13 October 2024 a 1–0 win settled the promotion question, and the club went up to China League Two for 2025. The final that followed was lost to Shenzhen 2028, which left Zhucheng as runners-up in the competition they had joined eighteen months after being founded.

Third-tier football is where the club sits now, with the Chinese FA Cup as the other route out of it. The immediate work is to establish itself at that level rather than treat 2024 as a template — the fourth division rewards a strong academy intake, the third does not always. The stadium, meanwhile, remains far bigger than the football played in it.
