About
China League Two is the third tier of the Chinese football league system, positioned below the Chinese Super League and China League One. Organized by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) and currently operated by the Chinese Professional Football League (CFL), the competition was established in 1989 as the "B League" to serve as the third division. It was professionalized in 1994 alongside the top two tiers.
As of the 2025 season, the league comprises 24 clubs divided into two regional groups: the Northern Group and the Southern Group. During the regular season, teams play within their respective groups. Following the regular season, the top four teams from each group advance to a promotion playoff tournament. The winners of these playoffs earn promotion to China League One. Relegation from China League Two sends teams down to the Chinese Champions League, also known as the Chinese Member Association Champions League (CMCL), which is the fourth tier and serves as the national amateur championship. The Chinese Champions League winner is promoted to China League Two.
The most successful club in the league's history is Shandong, now known as Shandong Taishan, which won the title twice in 1991 and 1992. No other club has won the league more than once. Notable single-time winners include Qingdao Hainiu in 2013, Wuhan Three Towns in 2020, and the current 2025 champion, Guangxi Hengchen.
The league has undergone several name changes and structural reforms. One significant chapter includes the rapid rise of Wuhan Three Towns from League Two to the Chinese Super League between 2020 and 2022. Another notable development pathway involves clubs like Shanghai East Asia, now Shanghai Port, which won in 2007.
