Hlučín

Hlučín's club was formed in 1923 as SK Hlučín and carried through the decades under a string of names — Sokol Hlučín, then Slavoj, then TJ Hlučín — before settling on FC Hlučín in 1991. The colours held steady through all of it: green, white and yellow, enough that locals still call the players žlutozelení.

For most of that history the club stayed in the lower reaches of Czech football, winning the I. A třída in 2000/01, the Slezský župní přebor a year later, Divize E in 2003/04 — before reaching the Moravskoslezská fotbalová liga title in 2008/09 and, on the back of it, the 2. Liga. Hlučín played five seasons at that level in all, twice going back down, in 2007/08 and again in 2010/11.

Vladimír Coufal spent two seasons here early in his career, between 2010 and 2012; Jiří Pavlenka came through on loan in the same window. Neither departure changed what the club is at its core, a lower-league side measuring itself most sharply against SFC Opava in the Hlučínské derby.

The clearest proof of what a lower-league side can do on its day came in the MOL Cup on 19 October 2022, when Hlučín met Viktoria Plzeň in the third round and beat them 3-2, Dominik Smékal scoring all three.
