Jastrzębie

Kamil Glik and Szymon Żurkowski both left Jastrzębie-Zdrój for the Poland squad.

It began on 15 June 1961 as KS Górnik Jastrzębie. A merger the following year with LZS Moszczenica produced Górnik Jas-Mos Jastrzębie, and the 1962 in the modern name records that merger rather than any founding. The club has gone through the names since — GKS Jastrzębie from 1970, MKS Górnik for six years around the turn of the century, GKS 1962 Jastrzębie since 2017.

The one season in the top flight came in 1988/89, promoted as champions of the second tier and finishing fourteenth. Fans of a certain age point elsewhere: the 1975/76 cup run, when Jastrzębie knocked out Wisła Kraków and then Legia Warszawa before losing in the semi-final. Second-tier promotions have come at long intervals since — 1979, 1985, 2007, 2017 — which reads less like a pattern than a club climbing back each time it slips.

Home is the Municipal Stadium in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, 5,650 seats, green, black and yellow on the terraces.

The fixture that matters most is Rybnik–Jastrzębie, against ROW 1964 Rybnik: two coal towns twenty minutes apart, both of them shaped by the same industry and both convinced they are the senior partner. Beyond that there are the Silesian derbies with GKS Katowice and GKS Tychy, and Górnik Zabrze, a club with a name that means the same thing and a trophy cabinet that does not.
