The club has kept its yellow, green and black colours through every reorganisation, including a spell from March 2003 when it played as Dospel Katowice, named for its sponsor, before returning to its own name in 2010 under a newly formed joint-stock company. Supporters still call it GieKSa.

Jan Furtok remains the reference point on the pitch: the club's all-time leading scorer, capped 36 times for Poland and part of the 1986 World Cup squad.

The Superpuchar Polski followed twice, in 1991 and 1995.

Since 2025 GKS has played at Arena Katowice, a 15,048-seat ground that replaced an old stadium holding 6,710. The league title is the one thing missing from the record: four second-place finishes over the club's history, no championship yet.
