Havířov

Havířov did not exist when this club was born. The town was built from scratch in the 1950s to house miners for the coal seams of the Ostrava-Karviná basin, but the team's own roots go back further, to a works side called ČSK Moravská Suchá, founded in 1922 in the settlement the new town would later absorb. It grew up as a colliery club, tied to the pits, and for most of its life carried the name Baník — "mine" — before settling on MFK Havířov.

The one season anyone still points to is 1986/87, when the club won the second tier of Czechoslovak football and earned a place in the country's top flight. It stayed there for ten years running, through 1997, a stretch of top-division football. A year earlier, in the Czechoslovak Cup, Havířov had reached the semi-final before Dukla Prague beat them 6-1.

Daniel Zítka came through the club's ranks in 1985 and went on to keep goal for the Czech Republic at Euro 2008. Miroslav Baranek followed a similar path out of the youth system, into the national team and then to five league titles with Sparta. Both started there.

Since the drop out of the top flight, the club's story has been one of climbing back through the regional divisions, one step at a time: the district league in 2003/04, then the tier above it in 2004/05, then the one above that in 2005/06. In 2025/26 it won Divize F and returned to the MSFL, the third tier. It plays now at the Stadion Dukla, known locally also as the Městský stadion v Prostřední Suché, in front of a capacity of 7,500.
