Bospor Bohumín

The stadium in Bohumín still carries a name few can now explain: Fotbalový areál Pavla Srnička, the title of what is listed on paper as Stadion FK Bohumín.

That history runs back to 1931, when AFK Nový Bohumín became the town's first senior side. Under the communist state it changed name almost every time the local steelworks did: Baňská a hutní Bohumín in 1948, then Baník BŽGK, then, from 1958, TJ ŽD Bohumín, after the Železárny a drátovny plant that fed the club and much of the town. Further renamings followed after 1990 — ŽD, Dipol, Coring, SK Bohumín — before two of the town's remaining sides, TJ Bohumín and FC Sokol Rapid Skřečoň, merged in 2006 to stop the drift. The new club took the name FK Bohumín, and in 2015 became FK Bospor Bohumín.

Its best football came earlier than either name. A runner-up finish in its third-division zone sent the club into the Czechoslovak second tier for the first time in 1971, and in 1972/73 it finished seventh there. Two decades later, second place in the Moravian-Silesian league in 1992/93 earned it a place in the second division of the newly independent Czech Republic, where it spent the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons. Since then the club has settled lower down the pyramid, winning the regional Přebor Moravskoslezského kraje in 2016/17 and finishing second in Divize F in 2020/21 and 2021/22, in a fixture list where MFK Havířov remains the one match that still draws a crowd to the 1,200-capacity ground.

Before any of the mergers or the steelworks names, there was simply Nový Bohumín, and a team taking the field in 1931.
