Karlberg

In 1912, a group of boys from Vasastan formed a football club under the name Bollklubben 74:an. The name changed to Widar — only for the founders to discover another club already used it. By 1919 the club had settled on Karlbergs Bollklubb, and it kept that name once it moved across to Kungsholmen, where it plays to this day.

Karlberg's rivalry with AIK runs deeper than the scoreline suggests. Founder Acke Hamberg once set up a group called Friends of AIK Hatred, choosing a rat as its symbol. No formal derby name ever attached itself to the fixture, but the history behind it outlasted the joke that started it.

Promotion has come to Karlberg in long gaps rather than a steady climb: the Division 3 Norra Svealand title in 2011, then Division 2 Norra Svealand in 2023, each one lifting the club a tier further from where it had settled. The Svenska Cupen has never been won, though the 2024/25 run — beating Östersunds FK to reach the group stage — stands out against a club that plays in front of 1,000 at Stadshagens IP.

The name most worth remembering from Karlberg's ranks is not a men's first-teamer but Ann Jansson, who scored Sweden's first-ever women's international goal, in 1974. Aydin Arjang takes charge of the first team for the 2026 season, succeeding Baran Coskun.
