Kopstal 33

The club traces back to 1933, though for four years in the 1940s it played, when it played at all, under the name FK Kopstal, imposed by the German occupation authorities; competitions were suspended for that stretch, and the old name returned in 1944. Its best run in the Coupe de Luxembourg came earlier still, a quarter-final in 1946/47 lost to Union Luxembourg.

The rivalry with Sporting Steinfort, sharpened by a relegation play-off the two sides contested in 1946/47, has outlasted most of what else has changed at the club since.

Home games are played in front of no more than 300 people at the Terrain rue de Mersch, a scale that has not stopped Kopstal from cycling in and out of the second tier for most of its history. Luc Thimmesch spent three seasons there before 2019, by which point his four caps for the Luxembourg national side already belonged to his time at other clubs.
