Laos Women

Souphavanh Phayvanh scored the team's first-ever international goal and has gone on to become its leading scorer with 19, since it first took the field on 6 September 2007, losing 1–13 to Thailand at the AFF Women's Championship. That founding year is worth pausing on: Laos had run a men's national side for decades, but a women's team only came together in 2007.

The team trains and plays out of Vientiane, at the New Laos National Stadium, in red and white, without a nickname that has stuck the way the men's team's has. Its best finishes have come at fourth place — at the 2011 and 2012 AFF Women's Championship, and at the SEA Games in 2007 and 2009 — until July 2026, when Laos reached the final of the AFF Women's Cup for the first time and lost 0–5 to Indonesia.

That distance is clearest against Thailand and Vietnam, the two opponents Laos has never beaten. Thailand delivered the 13–1 scoreline that opened the team's history in 2007.
