Levante U20

In Valencia the Derbi del Túria is played against the bigger club in the same city, Valencia CF. Levante have spent most of their existence as the second name in that pairing. Villarreal CF supply a second regional fixture, the Derbi de la Comunitat.

The present club dates from 1939. After the Spanish Civil War, Levante FC and Gimnástico FC merged. The shirts came from Gimnástico, in blue and garnet, and so did the nickname Granotes , the Frogs.

Their most unusual trophy is a wartime one. Levante won the Copa de la España Libre in 1937, and in 2023 the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) recognised it as equivalent to the Copa del Rey. The club has never won the Copa del Rey itself. Its best run in the competition ended in the semi-finals in 2020–21.

Levante first reached La Liga in 1963. They went down in 2005, 2008, 2016 and 2022, and each time they clawed their way back. Johan Cruyff played there for a season, in 1980–81. Sergio Ballesteros is remembered as a club icon.
