Loto Popo

Hassane Imourane came through the club's Poté academy and left for Egypt's Future FC in 2023 before moving on to Grasshopper Zurich.

The side did not start as Loto-Popo. It began in 1996 in Sakété as Adjobi FC, tied to the École Supérieure d'Administration et d'Économie, and spent years playing as ESAE FC. In November 2019 the Loterie Nationale du Bénin took the club over, rebuilt it as Loto-Popo FC and moved it south to Grand-Popo for the 2020–21 season, inheriting ESAE's place in the top flight. That first season under the new name and colours — green and white, worn by "Les Verts" or "Les Lotoboys" — ended with the Championnat National title, won by a club that had existed under its current identity for barely a year.

The Coupe du Bénin arrived earlier, in 2018–19, still under the ESAE banner, with a 2–1 win over ASPAC, and the Supercoupe followed in 2020 against Buffles du Borgou.

As ESAE, the club reached the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2019–20 and finished fourth. As Loto-Popo, a first attempt at the CAF Champions League in 2021–22 ended in the opening round against FC Nouadhibou, and a run in the 2023–24 Confederation Cup did not score away, but conceded. A second league title has not followed the first; runner-up finishes, in the league in 2022–23 and in the Supercoupe in 2019, are as close as the club has come since.
