Machico

Machico came together on 14 April 1969, when Sporting de Machico and Belenenses de Machico merged into a single club for the town. The colours settled the question of whose identity would carry forward: green for Sporting, blue for Belenenses, white added for peace, and the result gave the club its nickname, Os Tricolores.

The closest the club came to Portugal's second tier was under coach Dário Filho, after Machico won the AF Madeira Championship and went up to the 2ª Divisão Sul. In that debut season they finished as runners-up, one place short of a first promotion to the top flight, and the strain of competing at that level left the club in financial trouble. The following years saw it shuttle between the second and third divisions before it settled back into the Campeonato de Portugal in 2022.

Three AF Madeira titles mark the club's history, in 1975–76, 1989–90 and 2023–24, and the most recent one still shapes how Machico is spoken of on the island: it was followed by the Supertaça da Madeira, won 4–1 against Juventude de Gaula. The Taça da Madeira has gone to Machico three times as well, most recently in 2020–21. Locally, the fixture that matters is against CF Andorinha, the club's neighbour and rival within the municipality.

The Estádio Municipal de Machico holds 3,300, a scale that fits a club whose one attempt at the second tier ended not on the pitch but in the accounts. Machico has never produced a academy graduate who went on to wider recognition; the name most associated with the club, Zé Vitor, arrived in 2005 already formed elsewhere and left in 2008. Promotion back to the level Dário Filho's side reached remains the one thing the club has not managed since.
