Mortágua

The club was founded on 13 December 1937, and for most of the century that followed its business was the Viseu district championship rather than anything national. That changed, gradually, through a run of seven Divisão de Honra titles, the most recent coming in 2021–22 and carrying the club up into the Campeonato de Portugal, the fourth tier. It is as high as Mortágua has reached; a Taça de Portugal run has twice taken them as far as the third round, in 2014–15 and 2016–17, without ever threatening the rounds where the professional sides appear.

Few players have carried the Mortágua name onward. João Pais moved on from the club to Vizela, one of the rare cases of a Gandarada player being picked up by a side higher up the pyramid.

There is no derby with a name attached to it, no fixture with its own history of flashpoints. What Mortágua have instead, since reaching the Campeonato de Portugal, is Gouveia — a rivalry built simply out of proximity in the table, the two clubs turning up in the same group and finishing near each other season after season, with nothing more romantic behind it than that.
