Mozambique U20

Maputo trains its youth internationals at the Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto, a 42,000-seat ground that also serves as the base for Mozambique's under-20 side, "Os Mambinhas" — a diminutive of "Os Mambas," the senior team's nickname, drawn from the black mamba and its associations with speed and danger. The colours, green, yellow, red and black, come straight off the national flag, and the side plays under the badge of the Federação Moçambicana de Futebol, the governing body founded in 1976, since no separate emblem exists for the age group.

The team's record at the COSAFA U-20 Championship is built on near misses rather than titles: runners-up in 2008, beaten 3–2 by South Africa, and again in 2020, losing 1–0 to the same opponents. When Mozambique hosted the tournament in 2024, in Maputo and Matola, the run went the other way — defeats to Eswatini, Botswana and Zimbabwe left them bottom of their group, while South Africa went on to beat Zambia in the final.

Continentally, the high point came at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania, the side's first appearance in the finals. The group stage brought defeats to Uganda, Mauritania and Cameroon. Squads for the age group have drawn on players such as defender António César Langa, of Clube Ferroviário da Beira, and midfielder Calilo Traoré, from Clube Ferroviário Nampula.
