Mauritius U20

The fixtures that matter most for Mauritius U20 have rarely had a name attached to them, but the pattern is clear enough over the Indian Ocean Island Games: Madagascar U20 is the side that keeps coming up, a regional test with no continental stakes attached but plenty of local pride.

Continentally, this age group has one result it still points back to: the second round of the 1979 U-21 African Championship, reached when the youth setup was barely a going concern under the Mauritius Football Association, itself formed in 1952. Group-stage appearances followed in 1993 and 1995, but nothing has matched that early run since. A FIFA U-20 World Cup place has never come.

The team trains and plays out of Stade Germain Comarmond in Bambous, a 5,000-capacity ground in the Rivière Noire District, and wears the same red-and-white the senior side does — red at home, white away, both pulled from the national flag. That senior team's "Les Dodos" tag gets borrowed for the juniors too, since there has never been a separate name for the age group.

Coach Denis Dookee took charge through the 2018 and 2019 cycles, years spent chasing a first COSAFA U-20 Championship knockout-stage finish that still has not arrived. The more recent story belongs to the players: Jacques Prosper scored in a 7–0 win over Namibia U20 in 2022, while goalkeeper Kevin Jean-Louis moved up to the senior national team. There was no campaign in the 2024 COSAFA U-20 Cup, which doubled as qualifying for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations — Mauritius sat that cycle out, with a return set for the 2026 edition.

The scoreline against Zambia U20 in August 2010, during African Youth Championship qualifying, still stands as one of the better nights: 3–1.
