«Junior Chipolopolo»
Zambia's youth football does not begin with a founding date but with a job description: feed players through to the senior Chipolopolo, under the same Football Association of Zambia that has run the game in the country since 1929. The Junior Chipolopolo, as the age-group side is known, has no roster tied to a single year — it reassembles for each qualification cycle, first showing up on record at the 1999 African Youth Championship and returning to the tournament proper in 2007, when it finished fourth.
The side has been most consistent closer to home. In the COSAFA U-20 Championship it holds twelve titles, with wins stretching from 1983 to 2022. Continentally, the defining result came in 2017, when Zambia hosted the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and beat Senegal 2–0 in the final. That squad is remembered for more than the trophy: it sent Patson Daka to Leicester City, Enock Mwepu to the Premier League by way of Brighton, and Fashion Sakala through Spartak Moscow and Rangers.
There is no fixed rival stitched into the fixture list, though COSAFA's format has repeatedly pitted the side against South Africa U20 and Malawi U20 in matches that carry real weight for a regional title.
