Nairn County

The first Nairn County came and went between 1882 and 1891. The one that lasted was founded in 1909, joined the Highland League in 1914 and, with the war in between, played its first league games in 1919.

The town gave the club its nickname, The Wee County, and the yellow and black shirts and shorts. Station Park holds 2,250, of whom only 250 can sit. Clachnacuddin, from Inverness, provide the local derby.

The best years came in the 1960s. Davy Johnston, the club's all-time leading scorer with 286 goals, got 73 of them in 1963–64 alone. That was also the season County won the Highland League Cup, and they took the North of Scotland Cup in the same stretch, in 1963, 1964 and 1966.

Other names run through the record books. Glenn Main made 496 appearances, more than anyone else. Conor Gethins scored over 200 goals and moved on to Ross County. Ross Tokely played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County before he became a manager. Ross County still send young players on loan to Nairn, which suits a club with no academy of its own.

The North of Scotland Cup has kept coming back: 2006, 2009, 2013 and most recently 2024.
