Neftchi Baku Women reached their first Azerbaijan Women's Premier League title in the 2023/24 season. The club made its UEFA Women's Champions League debut the following season, drawing opponents such as PAOK, Lanchkhuti, Budućnost and St. Pölten in qualifying, and returned to the qualifying rounds again in 2025/26.
The squad plays in the black and white of the parent club, Neftchi PFK, and carries the same nickname, Oil Workers, drawn from the Azerbaijani word for oil. Several of the current group double up for the national team, among them the goalkeeper Aytaj Sharifova and the defender Alina Nahmadova. Siyasat Asgarov took charge of coaching the side through its championship run and its early steps in Europe.
Behind the women's team stands a much older name. Neftchi was founded on 18 March 1937 as Neftyanik, and it is out of that men's club, one of the oldest in Azerbaijani football, that the women's section grew.
