Bucharest, 5 July 2025: a 1–0 win over Spain in the final gave the Netherlands under-19s their first European title at this level. That gap matters — the side had reached the final on three earlier occasions, in 1948, 1949 and 1970, and lost each time, the last of them settled by goal average after a 1–1 draw with East Germany. It took until 2025 to turn that record around.

The team's history runs almost as long as the European under-19 championship itself: it played its first international on 15 April 1948, beating the Republic of Ireland 2–0.

Spain has become the fixture that keeps recurring at the sharp end of the tournament, from the 2025 final back through qualifying meetings between the two countries; Germany has done the same at the semi-final stage, including a penalty shoot-out defeat in 2016.

Squads at this level have doubled as a preview of the senior national side. Frenkie de Jong won eight caps here before his move into the first team, and Nathan Aké made the same number of appearances, scoring three goals along the way. Matthijs de Ligt came through with six.

Training and home fixtures run out of the KNVB Campus in Zeist, built around the Oranje Stadion.

Three runners-up medals across three decades, then one title: 2025 is the only year on the list where the Netherlands under-19s finished top.
