Nyköping

That changed in 1966, when Nyköpings SK and Nyköpings AIK merged into a single side, Nyköpings BIS, pooling players and resources rather than competing for the same pool of talent.

The name gave the club its nickname before it gave it a history: Bissarna , simply the initials BIS said aloud. It has stuck through decades in which the club has shuttled between the third and second tiers, never reaching Allsvenskan. The closest it came was a run in Division 2 through the 1970s, ten seasons in total split across two spells, with promotions back up from Division 3 following in 1994, 2000, 2003 and 2012.

More recently the club has sent players outward rather than kept them: Adam Lundqvist moved through IF Elfsborg on his way to Houston Dynamo, and Rami Kaib followed a similar route through Elfsborg to FC Groningen. Suad Gruda went the other direction in a sense, arriving as a Montenegro under-21 international and staying on to manage the side after his playing days at the club ended.

Nyköpings SK and IFK Nyköping remain the derbies that matter most, matches fought over a town rather than a division.
