Olympique du Kef

El Kef had two football sides before it had one: Étoile Sportive du Kef, formed in the town in May 1922.

What followed was less a single climb than a repeated one. Olympique du Kef has gone up and down between the top flight and the lower divisions of Tunisian football for decades, and its honours board reads accordingly: six titles in the Ligue Professionnelle 2, won in 1958, 1975, 1978, 1987, 1993 and 2012. A run to the semi-finals of the Tunisian Cup in 1996 remains the closest the club has come in that competition.

The club plays in red and black, which gives it its nickname, les Rouge et Noir, and its ground, the Stade du Kef, holds 9,000.

Among those who wore the colours, Imed Ayari is remembered simply as a goalscorer, prolific through the 1990s and into the 2000s in a team that spent much of that stretch shuttling between divisions.
