Łomża

Henryk and Wacław Cieśluk started the club because they did not want Łomża's teenagers drifting towards the military sides, Legion Młodych among them. Their Łomżynianka was the town's first civilian sports club. Thirteen days after its formation it played the 71st Infantry Regiment from Zambrów and won 6:0. In 1933 it merged with Legion Młodych, the club it had been set up to rival, and played on under military patronage. Four years later it was expelled from competitions for unpaid fees.

The war destroyed the stadium. Afterwards the club went through OMTUR, Kolejarz, Budowlani and Start, and the name ŁKS Łomża came back in 1950. A merger with Sparta in 1956 produced ŁKS Budowlani, renamed ŁKS Start the following year, and the old name was restored again in 1966.

The most precarious moment came in 1995, when the club was close to bankruptcy and the city paid off its debts. Relegation to the fourth tier followed in 1998. The climb back began with the IV liga title in 2004, and a year later a brewery sponsor put its name on the shirts, so the club became ŁKS Browar Łomża. In 2006 it won the III liga and reached the second tier for the first time, with home crowds averaging close to 3,000 in a ground that holds 3,500.

It could not hold on to that. After finishing 13th in 2007/08, the club ended 2008/09 bottom of the Eastern Group, with a curator appointed in February 2009 and a licence for the III liga refused. It spent 2009/10 in the IV liga, finishing third. In 2010 the club was restructured and renamed ŁKS 1926 Łomża, so that the date of the Cieśluk brothers' first match stood in the name again.

Since then the club has won the IV liga twice more, in 2011 and 2023. Its clearest run has been in the Podlaskie regional cup, and the meetings with Wigry Suwałki, billed as the Podlaskie derby, carry extra weight. The cup has gone to Łomża seven times, most recently in 2025.
