Uefa rejects FAI request to separate Ireland from Israel
FAI chief David Courell says Uefa refused to keep Ireland and Israel apart in draws, as the sides prepare to meet in Nations League fixtures on 27 September and 4 October.

Oday Dabbagh scored a hat-trick against Bangladesh in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, then added two more against Hong Kong at the 2024 Asian Cup. The Palestinian Football Association took shape in 1962, though a federation had organised matches as far back as the British Mandate years, and it took until June 1998 for FIFA to grant full membership. The first game played under that recognition ended in a 3–1 defeat to Lebanon, with Ricardo Carugati in charge.
The breakthrough came in 2014, when Ashraf Nu'man's goal beat the Philippines 1–0 in the final of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup and sent Palestine to the Asian Cup for the first time. A quarter-final run followed at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar, under coach Ihab Abu Jazar.
Red remains the colour of the home kit, white of the away one, and the rivalry with Jordan sharpens whenever the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship or Asian Cup qualifiers put the two sides in the same group. The Faisal Al-Husseini International Stadium in Al-Ram, in the Jerusalem Governorate of the West Bank, holds some 12,500 people for the nights when qualification is on the line.
