Konyaspor

Konya has spent most of the last century as a byword for Anatolian conservatism and Seljuk history. Konyaspor grew out of Konya Gençlerbirliği, formed on 22 June 1922; the 1965 restructuring of Turkish football folded the city's clubs into a single professional side under the Konyaspor name, playing in black and white. The colours the club wears now arrived in 1981, absorbed from Konya İdmanyurdu in a merger — the date still sits on the badge, though it marks that union rather than the club's birth, which the board did not formally fix at 1922 until 2016.

The Konyaspor–İdmanyurdu rivalry died with the merger it produced. What replaced it runs east across the Central Anatolian plateau to Sivas, a derby with no trophy at stake but a regional pride that outlasts league position.

Promotion came twice through the second tier, in 1987–88 and 2002–03, but the club's one major honour arrived on penalties: a scoreless Turkish Cup final in 2017 settled 4–1 against İstanbul Başakşehir, followed by a 2–1 win over Beşiktaş for the Super Cup that same year. A UEFA Europa League group stage followed that fixture list, and the club has twice finished third in the Süper Lig, in 2015–16 and again in 2021–22. Samuel Eto'o wore the shirt for one season, in 2018, brief enough to register mainly as a name on Antalyaspor's rivalry lists in the press afterwards. The number more likely to be remembered locally is 6, retired for Ahmet Yılmaz Çalık, the long-serving captain who died in 2022.

Home games are played at the Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadyumu, holding 41,600. It replaced a ground carrying the same civic name, in a city that had gone into professional football only because the old amateur sides could no longer be told apart from each other.
