«De Leeuwen»
Founding member Ko Lankelma settled on Purmersteijn, after the old Purmer Castle, and in 1946 the club took in local rival Sandow and kept the borrowed name.
The nickname De Leeuwen has nothing to do with the badge — the lions come from Purmerend's own coat of arms, not from anything stitched on the shirt.
Purmersteijn's best season came in 1963–64, when the Eerste Klasse title took them to sixth in the national amateur championship. More than fifty years later, in 2016–17, they matched that league title with a cup: the KNVB District Cup for West I, won on penalties against ADO '20. A brief run in the Hoofdklasse followed a play-off win over Achilles '12 in 2011, though it lasted one season before relegation sent them back down.
None of that carries the local weight of the Purmerendse derby against FC Purmerend. The first meeting between the two, on 8 December 2013, went to Purmersteijn 5-1.
