On 5 September 1935 several young men from the town came together as Voetbalvereniging Zwaluwen. The club spent its early decades moving between grounds — a youth-association pitch, Groeneweg, Kethelweg, the park at 't Nieuwelant — before settling in 1970 at what is now Sportpark Zwaluwenlaan.
The team plays in black and white vertical stripes. The one occasion it broke through was 1951, when Zwaluwen beat WVF 5–1 to lift the KNVB Amateur Cup, still the biggest result in the club's history.
What changed the club's standing came much later. In the 2024–25 season Zwaluwen won the Vierde Divisie and, with it, promotion to the Derde Divisie for the first time.
