RKAV Volendam

In July 1977 the old Volendam side split in two, and the professional half took the name FC Volendam.

The name itself has moved twice. What began on 1 June 1920 as Victoria became RKSV Volendam three years later, when the club also swapped its original red and black for the orange it still wears. The Catholic federation that had organised the club was folded into the Royal Dutch Football Association during the German occupation in 1940, a forced merger rather than a choice.

For decades RKAV's honours sat mostly in cups and regional titles — the Zaterdagbeker in 1977, the Districtsbeker West I in 1979 and 1980 — the currency of amateur football rather than headline silverware. That changed in the 2023–24 season, when the club won the Derde Divisie A and earned promotion to the Tweede Divisie for the first time in its history, a step up no version of RKAV had managed since Victoria first laced up boots in 1920.

The club's academy has sent players further than its own league ever did: Wim Jonk went on to Ajax and Inter Milan, and Joey Veerman worked his way up to Borussia Dortmund and the Dutch national side. Both started where the club still plays, at the Sportpark on the Julianaweg, in the shirt that once belonged to Victoria.
