Redeyef sits in the mining basin of the Tunisian south-west, where the phosphate company Com-Phos gave the town its first football side back in 1920 under the name Khanfous. A second club, Jeunesse Sportive de Redeyef, grew up alongside it in 1956, and for a couple of years the town had two teams pulling in the same direction before deciding to pull together: in 1958 they merged into a single side, Union Sportive Jeunesse-Khanfous, which took the name Croissant Sportif de Redeyef two years later.

Before the merger, Khanfous had already given the town something to hold onto, winning the South-West Second Division title in both 1948 and 1949 and the Central-South Regional Criterion in 1953. The new club spent much of its life shuttling between divisions, reaching Ligue 2 in 1978 and staying there for seven seasons before being relegated, then returning in 1989 and again in 1999. The Tunisian Cup never came its way, though the club pushed as far as the round of 16 five times across four decades, including in its very first season, 1958-59.

The clearest marker of what CS Redeyef became came later still: the Ligue 3 title in 2011-12, which sent the club back up to Ligue 2 and stands as its only national championship of the professional era. The team still plays in blue and white at the Stade Municipal de Redeyef, a ground that holds about 4,000, in a town where the club's old rival Khanfous is not an opponent anymore but the other half of its own name.
