RSC Anderlecht II

Anderlecht built its reserve side the way most Belgian clubs eventually had to: not as a stepping stone with its own ambitions, but as a place to put players who had outgrown the academy but weren't ready for the Jupiler Pro League. For years the team played under the flat name Anderlecht II, working its way up through the amateur divisions — Second Amateur Division in 2019/2020, First Amateur Division the two seasons after, then a play-off promotion into what became the Challenger Pro League. On 14 August 2022, the club rebranded the whole set-up as RSCA Futures, a name meant to describe the job rather than the team: development, not results.

That job comes with a built-in ceiling. Belgian rules bar reserve sides from promotion into the top flight regardless of where they finish, so the Futures' first season under the new name — sixth place in 2022/2023 — was as high as the project could ever formally go. The three campaigns since have drifted the other way: 12th, 13th, 14th. No cup or league title sits in the club's history, in the Challenger Pro League or its amateur-division predecessors, and none was ever really the point.

The team plays at Dakota Arena in Deinze, some way from Anderlecht's own ground, wearing the parent club's mauve and white and carrying the same nickname, the Purple & White. Players here are contracted to the first team, not to the reserve side itself, which is why the roster turns over as fast as anyone breaks through — Jeremy Doku passed through the youth ranks before his move up, Zinedin Tielemans and Guillaume Gillet both appeared for the Jong Anderlecht side in their own eras. What the Futures have not produced, at least not in any record that survives the rebrand, is a settled account of who else came through and what became of them.
