Rukinzo

Bujumbura's police force put a team on the pitch on 31 March 2015, and Rukinzo has kept that link since — the squad has drawn mainly on serving officers rather than the open transfer market that shapes most Burundian clubs. That origin still marks the club out from the capital's other sides two decades on.

Home games are played at Stade Intwari, known too under its formal name, Stade Prince Louis Rwagasore, a 22,000-seat ground in Bujumbura. In league football Rukinzo has never threatened the top of the table; sixth place in 2018/19, its first season in the top flight, remains the club's best finish.

The cup has told a different story. Rukinzo reached the final in 2019 and again in 2020, losing both, then won the Coupe du Burundi in 2024 and repeated the win in 2026. The 2020 final defeat still carried a prize: the runners-up spot sent the club into the CAF Confederation Cup, where it went out at the preliminary stage — the closest it has come to continental competition.

Blaise Mugisha is the name attached most often to that run, one of the officers-turned-footballers who have carried the club through a cup history longer than its league one.
