Salgueiros 08

Deco wore the shirt of Sport Comércio e Salgueiros. The original Salgueiros went under in the early 2000s, and for a few years there was no team left in Porto carrying that name or those colours. In 2008 a new club rose in its place under a different registration, Salgueiros 08. It kept the red jersey, white shorts and red socks the old side had worn, and it kept the nickname Velho Salgueiral, the Old Salgueiral.

The revival started at the bottom, in the Porto Football Association's regional divisions, and it started well: the Second Division title came in the club's first season, 2008–09, followed by successive promotions that carried it up through the Porto FA First Division, the National Third Division, and the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores inside four years. In 2016 the club dropped the "08" and reclaimed its original name outright, a formality that mattered to supporters even if the team on the pitch had already been playing under the old identity in spirit. It now competes in Série B of the Campeonato de Portugal, the fourth tier, at the Estádio do Padroense FC in Padrão da Légua, on the edge of Matosinhos rather than in Porto itself.

Boavista remains the fixture that matters most, a rivalry that predates the collapse and survived it. It is a smaller stage now than the one Deco left for Benfica and eventually Barcelona and Chelsea, but the shirt he started in is still the one on the players' backs.
