The men who put FA Šiauliai together in 2007 were not starting from nothing. They had a working side, Napolis Šiauliai, and they had the Klevas sports school, with its intake of local boys, and on 1 September the two were merged into one club.

The city already had a club of that name. FC Šiauliai grew out of KFK Šiauliai and won Pirma Lyga in 2004, and was wound up in 2016. That left the newer club as the only senior football in Šiauliai.

Šiauliai reached the Lithuanian Cup final in 2023 and lost it to TransINVEST Vilnius — a second final for the city, and a second time the cup went elsewhere.

Home is the municipal stadium on S. Daukanto street, listed at 4,000. Supporters mostly settle for šiauliečiai — simply, people of Šiauliai.

In the lower divisions there is also Juventa-99 to contend with.
