Slavičín

Slavičín sits in the Zlín Region, a town whose football club has spent nine decades changing names in step with whatever was running the local economy. It started life in 1935 as Sportovní mládež Slavičín – Mladotice, went through Spartak Slavičín in the 1960s, merged with Dukla Slavičín in 1970 to become TJ Vlárské strojírny Slavičín, named for the Vlary Machine Works, and took its current name, FC TVD Slavičín, after 1989, honouring the Technical Production Cooperative founded that year.

None of that history carries the weight of three afternoons in the Czech Cup. Between 2005 and 2016, a club eliminated Zbrojovka Brno and Baník Ostrava, both on penalties, and then beat 1. FC Slovácko 2:0 in 2015/16 — three wins over sides from the top flight, spread across three different decades.

Domestically the club's level is Divize E, which it won in 2008/09 and again in 2018/19, turning down the promotion the second time. Matches against FC Fastav Vsetín are known locally as the Valašské derby, the closest thing the club has to a fixed rivalry.
