His twin brother Christian also turned out for the senior side. The Regionalliga years came about because of a third-place finish in the 2015–16 Oberliga Westfalen, which took the club into the fourth tier for the first time. That stay lasted one season, and the club went back down.

He then moved to VfL Bochum II and on to FC Schalke 04. That season ended with a Verbandsliga Westfalen title, Group 2, the third of four the club won in that league (2000, 2002, 2007 and 2009).

The name explains the club's shape. Turngemeinde Sprockhövel dates from 1881 and later became Turnverein Sprockhövel. In 1907 a second club appeared as Athene Sprockhövel, renamed Sportverein Sprockhövel in 1909. Their blue and white colours, and the ground at Im Baumhof, which holds 3,500, belong to the merged club. Its local rival is SC Obersprockhövel, and the meetings between them are known as the Sprockhövel Derby.

The last two seasons ran in opposite directions.
