Marcin Nowacki came through the youth ranks in Brzeg before going on to play for the Polish national team and clubs including Odra Wodzisław and Groclin Dyskobolia.

The club was put together on 25 January 1967 by three local metal plants, Agromet, Besel and Brzeskie Zakłady Przemysłowe. Financial trouble at the wider sports club forced the football section to split off in 1994 under the name BTP Brzeg. It became BTP Piast Brzeg in 2004, then reverted to BTP Stal Brzeg on 16 April 2009.

Since then the honours have stayed regional rather than national — the Opole ZPN Cup in 2018/19 and 2022/23, and the Wojewódzki Puchar Polski in 2023. Promotion out of the fourth-tier IV liga opolska in 2023/24 put them back in the III Liga, in Group III this time.

None of it has yet added up to a national title.
