Tayport

Boys who had spent their Saturdays as a Senior Boy Scouts side wanted a proper football team of their own, and in 1947 they had one: Tayport Amateurs, set up in direct rivalry to the town's existing side, Tayport Violet. The older club could not live alongside the new one for long — Violet folded after the 1952–53 season, leaving the field to the newcomers, who took the name Tayport Football Club in 1990.

The Port, as the town knows them, moved to The Canniepairt on Shanwell Road in 1975, leaving the East Common behind for a ground that now holds 2,000. Nothing about that move made headlines beyond Fife, but it gave the club a home it has kept for half a century since.

The Currie Cup and the Herschell Cup came round almost as regularly, evidence of a club that dominated its own patch even when the bigger prize eluded it.

James Messer passed through the club in the early 1900s before Raith Rovers signed him at the end of the 1903–04 season. Dundee North End remain the fixture that matters most, the derby that still decides bragging rights in that corner of Angus and Fife.

What The Port has not done is push on to senior football. The honours board is full of regional silverware and one heavyweight cup treble, but a step up out of the junior ranks has never followed.
