Threave Rovers

Thirteen South of Scotland League titles tell only part of the story at Threave Rovers, because most of them arrived in clusters — three straight from 1993 to 1995, then another run either side of 2010. Add the Southern Counties Cup, the Potts Cup, the Detroit Trophy and half a dozen other regional pots, and the total reaches 66 honours since the club was founded in Castle Douglas in October 1953.

None of that came with a Scottish Cup breakthrough, though the competition gave Threave Rovers its best-remembered afternoon in 2007–08, when they beat Stenhousemuir. A rematch three seasons later turned into a running joke of its own: the replay was postponed fifteen times for weather before it was finally played out.

League life has meant moving between levels rather than climbing steadily through one. The club tried the East of Scotland League from 1998 but came back after travel costs made it unworkable, took up a Lowland Football League invitation in 2013 and left again in 2016, and were placed in the West of Scotland League Fourth Division in 2022. Promotion to the First Division followed in 2024–25.

Brodie Wishart, still in the youth ranks, was named Youth Football Scotland Player of the Week for 2025/26. George Cloy went the other way round, arriving at Threave Rovers after his senior career had already been made at Queen of the South.

The closest and sharpest fixture remains the Stewartry Derby, against Dalbeattie Star. Home games are played out in front of black-and-white stripes and red shorts at Meadow Park, a ground that holds around 1,600.
