Reserve sides in Slovak football tend to exist for one reason, and AS Trenčín II was set up to sit directly beneath that conveyor belt, entered into the fourth-tier TIPOS III. Liga Západ ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The start suggested nothing of what followed: a 0:5 defeat in the opening match. By the winter break the team had turned that into 34 points from 15 games, scoring 41 and conceding 18, and topped the table. For a side stocked with teenagers rather than the club's established stars, that swing from an opening thrashing to a title-chasing run is the more telling detail than any single scoreline in between.

The team plays out of Štadión na Sihoti alongside the first team, a ground rebuilt to hold just over 6,000 following work completed in 2021 — modest by the standards of what some of its graduates have gone on to fill elsewhere, but built for a club whose business is development rather than crowds.

Whatever the reserve side plays for itself, it inherits Trenčín's rivalries by name if not yet by stakes: Spartak Trnava and Slovan Bratislava at the top of Slovak football, and closer to home the Derby Považia against Dubnica and Púchov, a contest rooted in the valley the three clubs share rather than in anything either side has won.
