TSV St. Johann

Football in St. Johann im Pongau was being organised before the club carried its present name. A side called Union St. Johann i. Pg. played its first matches in 1947, on a pitch laid out in the town during the lean postwar years partly with labour supplied by prisoners of war. Two years later that team joined the newly formed multi-sport union Turn- und Sportverein and became its football section, adopting the name TSV St. Johann in 1949.

Growth eventually pulled the football side away from its parent body. In 2007 it split off as an independent club, trading for a few years under a sponsor's name, TSV McDonald's St. Johann im Pongau, before reverting to TSV St. Johann in the 2010s.

Home matches are played at the Sportplatz St. Johann, known locally as the Alpenarena, which holds around 2,000 spectators.

The club's best seasons came in the Salzburg Landesliga, where it won the title in 1969/70 and again in 2007/08, on top of an earlier championship in the 1. Klasse Süd in 1962. Promotion into the Regionalliga West, then Austria's second tier, followed in 1970/71, when St. Johann finished eighth of fourteen. A playoff for the top four spots in 2015/16 ended with third place.

Fabio Ingolitsch made only eight appearances for St. Johann, in 2010, before turning to coaching; by 2026 he was in charge of Bundesliga side Sturm Graz. Luca Kronberger came through the club's academy between 2009 and 2013 and went on to play for Sturm Graz, Admira Wacker, Ried and Rheindorf Altach, as well as Austria's youth teams. Ernst Lottermoser managed the first team for eight years, from 2016 to 2024; Bernhard Kletzl took over the bench in 2026.

Locally, nothing matches the Pongau-Derby against SK Bischofshofen, though fixtures with FC Pinzgau Saalfelden carry their own name, the Westliga-Derby.

St. Johann finished the 2025/26 Regionalliga West season in 13th place out of 14.
