Tubarão

The 2017 Copa Santa Catarina still counts for more at Estádio Domingos Silveira Gonzales than the club's name might suggest, because the side that lifted it was not, on paper, the one that had won the competition the first time round. Tubarão Futebol Clube, the "Tricolor" born from a 1992 merger of Esporte Clube Ferroviário and Hercílio Luz Futebol Clube, took the same trophy in 1998 and went on to collect both halves of the Campeonato Catarinense within a few seasons, the 1º Turno in 1996 and 2001, the 2º Turno in 1997, the Torneio Seletivo in 2000. Runner-up finishes in the state championship in 1997 and 1998 rounded out a decade in which the club was rarely out of contention.

Financial trouble shut that entity down in April 2005. Within days, Associação Cultural Recreativa e Esportiva Atlético Cidade Azul was registered to keep a team from Tubarão in the leagues, and it won the Campeonato Catarinense's Série C that same year's rebuild cycle brought, in 2007. Supporters pushed for the old identity to return, and in 2009 the club was renamed Clube Atlético Tubarão, taking back the "Peixe" and "Tricolor" nicknames along with the sky blue and navy stripes.

The rivalry with Hercílio Luz, one of the two clubs whose merger had created Tubarão FC in the first place, is still played out as the Clássico de Tubarão. Leandro Damião spent time there on loan in 2008, before his move into Brazil's top flight, and Wesley França wore the shirt between 2019 and 2021.

Another Série C title followed in 2023, sixteen years after the first one under the Cidade Azul name.
