Turriff United

Turriff United did not arrive as a project designed for promotion; it grew from the local need to play football in a town where the river runs through the centre. Founded in 1954 as a junior side, the club spent decades building a reputation in Aberdeenshire before making the leap to senior competition. That move came in 2009, when they joined the Highland League. They are known as the Turra, and they carry the image of Moo the Coo on their shirts.

Their home is The Haughs, situated beside the River Deveron. The ground holds 2,135 spectators, though only 135 of those have seats. On the pitch, the club has won plenty of cups, mostly in the lower tiers of Scottish football. Before that, they had already tasted success with the Aberdeenshire Shield three times and the North Region First Division title in 2003. These are not trophies that fill stadiums, but they are things that matter to the people who watch the games.

The Scottish Cup run in 2012–13 brought them to the Round of 32. Since then, the club has remained steady, collecting honours when opportunities arise and focusing on the day-to-day business of the league. The colours they wear—navy and white—are not officially documented anywhere, but they are the colours of the shirt you buy from the club shop.

There is no single figure who defines the modern era of Turriff United. The players rotate, the coaches change, but the connection to the town remains constant. It is a quiet existence, but one that has lasted seventy years.
