Some 3,500 of the crowd at the AOK Stadion stand rather than sit; only 1,700 of the ground's 5,200 capacity is seated. The women's team and the under-19s have shared the ground since 2015.

The academy itself was pulled into a single, centralised structure in 2006.

The side has twice been crowned German under-19 champions. The first, in 2010-11, came with a 1:0 win over 1. FC Köln; the second, two years later, needed extra time against Hansa Rostock before Federico Palacios settled it in the 89th minute. Wolfsburg has also reached two finals since without winning them, losing to Schalke 04 in 2012 and to Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

In the DFB-Pokal der Junioren, the final has been reached twice and lost twice, against TSV 1860 München in 2007 and against VfB Stuttgart in 2026. Regionally, dominance has been harder to dispute: seven titles in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga Nord/Nordost.

None of that carries the weight of the games against Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig. Those meetings are billed as the Niedersachsen-Derby, the Lower Saxony derby.
