Wrexham Women

Wrexham A.F.C. Women went into the 2025–26 season chasing something the club had never held: the Adran Premier title, women's football's top tier in Wales. They took it, and added the Adran Trophy in the same campaign, a double that put them into the UEFA Women's Champions League for the first time.

Getting there took longer than the trophy cabinet suggests. The team traces back to 1993, when Mike Rigg founded Wrexham Ladies FC, but the name did not survive its own poor form: bottom of the North Wales Women's Regional Football League Division Two in 1998, the side dropped the Wrexham identity altogether and played on as Broughton Aerospace, then Airbus UK Broughton. A separate club, NEWI Wrexham Ladies, grew out of North East Wales Institute and Yale College players in 2003 and later reclaimed the Wrexham Ladies name in 2009. That version folded in January 2016 for lack of players. What exists now dates from May 2018, starting again in the North Wales Women's Football League Division Two under the Wrexham A.F.C. Women banner.

The rebuild accelerated once Wrexham Holdings LLC, the ownership group of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, took the men's side to prominence and turned attention to the women's team, which went semi-professional in 2023 — the same year it won the Adran North. They play at The Rock in Rhosymedre, and their fixtures against Cardiff City Women have carried real weight, the two sides meeting in successive cup finals.

Katie Barker scored 29 goals as the title was won, enough to make her Player of the Season for 2025–26. The name still most tied to the club's history, though, is Rosie Hughes, its all-time leading goalscorer.
