The **Ganguly–Durjoy Trophy** serves as the premier bilateral contest for cricket between India and Bangladesh. Instituted in 2016 and first awarded in 2017, this permanent trophy honours the legacy of former captains Sourav Ganguly and Naimur Rahman Durjoy. The name commemorates their historic first Test match against one another in 2000.

India currently holds the trophy after winning all four series contested to date. Successive victories in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2024 have ensured the Indian side retains the accolade. While the Ganguly–Durjoy Trophy specifically applies to Test cricket, no named bilateral trophies exist for One Day International or Twenty20 International series between the two nations.

The relationship between these cricketing bodies extends beyond the pitch. The Bangladesh Cricket Board was established in 1972, paving the way for international engagement. Bangladesh achieved Test status and full membership of the International Cricket Council on June 26, 2000. This milestone preceded their inaugural Test match in Dhaka, which took place in November of that same year.

Series formats fluctuate according to the ICC Future Tours Programme. The 2022 tour featured both ODIs and Tests, whereas the 2024 visit focused on Tests and T20Is. A planned bilateral tour for 2026 was postponed due to diplomatic tensions. Recent head-to-head records indicate India leads significantly in Tests with 13 wins and two draws from 15 matches. India also dominates the T20I format with 16 wins from 17 matches. In ODIs, the contest remains more balanced, with India securing 33 wins against Bangladesh’s eight from 42 matches. The rivalry has evolved from early Indian dominance into a more competitive dynamic, a shift highlighted by Bangladesh’s World Cup victory over India in 2007.
