The **Hong Kong International Sixes** is an invitational cricket tournament that brings together national teams rather than domestic clubs. Organized by Cricket Hong Kong, China, the event operates independently of a traditional pyramid structure with promotion or relegation. Instead, squads are selected by their respective boards and sanctioned by the International Cricket Council.
Unlike standard domestic competitions, this showcase focuses on international participation. The format involves twelve teams divided into four groups of three. Participants play a single round-robin within their groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage. Matches consist of five overs per side, using six balls per over, except for the final which uses eight balls per over. Unique regulations limit bowlers to one over each and require batsmen to retire after scoring 31 runs, although they may return if the team is all out.
The competition has a long history, having been founded in 1992. It ran annually for many years before experiencing hiatuses between 1998 and 2000, 2013 and 2016, and 2018 and 2023. The tournament returned in 2024 and continued into the current 2025 season. Pakistan holds the record for the most victories with six titles. England and South Africa have each won the competition five times. Other winners include the West Indies, India, Sri Lanka, and Australia.
The event is designed to promote cricket in Asia and provide high-profile exposure for participating nations outside of standard International Cricket Council calendars. It often features star players and legends. Recent editions have reverted to the generic name without a prominent title sponsor, following years of corporate naming rights. The 2025 edition was won by Pakistan. This structure distinguishes it from local leagues, as it serves as a brief, intense festival of the sport rather than a prolonged domestic season.
