ICC Champions Trophy 2024/25

The ICC Champions Trophy is a men's One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is widely regarded as the second-most prestigious ODI tournament after the ICC Cricket World Cup, often referred to as the "Mini world Cup" due to its exclusive field of the top-ranked teams. Unlike the World Cup, which features all Full Member nations, the Champions Trophy is limited to the top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings. This creates a higher concentration of elite teams, making it a high-stakes event between World Cups.

The tournament was founded in 1998 as the ICC KnockOut Trophy, originally conceived to raise funds for the development of cricket in non-Test playing nations. The inaugural edition was hosted in Bangladesh and sponsored by Wills. The tournament was rebranded as the ICC Champions Trophy starting with the 2002 edition. Since then, it has been held irregularly: biennially from 1998 to 2006, then every four years from 2009 to 2017. It was cancelled in 2021 and reinstated for 2025.

The 2025 edition featured two groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the knockouts. Matches are played in the 50-over ODI format. India is the most successful team with three titles (2002, 2013, 2025). India is also the current holder, having defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final held on March 9, 2025, in Dubai, UAE. Pakistan was the official host, but India played its matches in the UAE due to security concerns. Notable winners include South Africa (1998), New Zealand (2000), West Indies (2004), Australia (2006, 2009), and Pakistan (2017). The 2002 final was abandoned due to rain, resulting in joint winners India and Sri Lanka.
