About

The Logan Cup stands as Zimbabwe’s premier domestic first-class cricket tournament. It holds the distinction of being one of the oldest cricket competitions of its kind in the world, tracing its origins back to 1903 when James Douglas Logan presented the original trophy to Rhodesia. The competition transitioned to a formal first-class status in the 1993–94 season.

The tournament features five provincial franchises: the Mashonaland Eagles, Matabeleland Tuskers, Mid West Rhinos, Mountaineers, and Southern Rocks. Matches follow a double round-robin format. The Mountaineers franchise currently leads the modern era with six titles, while the predecessor team, Mashonaland, holds the all-time record with nine championships. The 2024–25 title was secured by the Mountaineers.

The Pro50 Championship serves as the associated List A competition, utilizing the same five franchises. The Mashonaland Eagles are the most successful side in this competition with six titles. The Mountaineers claimed the most recent 2024–25 Pro50 Championship victory.

A separate domestic Twenty20 event, known as the Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Challenge, operates alongside these longer formats. Founded in the 2006–07 season, it employs a round-robin group stage followed by a knockout final. The Mid West Rhinos are the reigning champions from the 2024–25 season.

Zimbabwe’s domestic structure is distinct among Associate nations. It oscillates between provincial and franchise models and relies on direct board sponsorship rather than private commercial ownership. There is no formal promotion or relegation system within the top-tier domestic leagues. This setup differentiates it from international tours, such as the upcoming 2026 series against Bangladesh, which remains a separate bilateral entity.
